Is a hair transplant permanent?
Hair transplants can provide long-lasting hair restoration using transplanted follicles, although results vary between patients and surrounding native hair may continue to thin over time.
Does the procedure hurt?
Dr. Tharindu performs the procedure under local anaesthesia, with an anaesthetist on the team. A combination of short- and long-acting anaesthetic means the numbness wears off gradually over a couple of days. Most patients report mild soreness of around 2 to 4 out of 10 on the first night, usually managed with simple painkillers.
How long does it take to see results?
Transplanted hairs shed in the first 2-4 weeks; new growth typically starts at 3-4 months, with the final result at 12-18 months.
Is there any downtime after the procedure?
Most patients can return to normal activities within a few days. Post-procedure instructions will be provided to ensure optimal healing. However patients are advised to avoid
- heavy exercises that can sweat
- sea baths and swimming pools
- wearing helmets
- direct sun exposure
for the first 21 days after the surgery.
First head wash and bandage removal will be done on the 3rd day after the surgery and most of the patients return back to their work by around 4th or 5th day provided that they avoid the above mentioned activities.
